Refreshments and Drinks
If you are thinking about serving refreshments or drinks, keep in mind that the Global Simulation Workshop is an activity-intense event. Participants will not have too much time to relax and eat during the Workshop, and it may detract from the Workshop dynamic if there are too many people hanging around the refreshment table during the game.
Having refreshments available at a Workshop, however, can attract more participants (especially if it is a voluntary event) and make the overall experience more pleasant for players. Here are a few tips to having refreshments that are appropriate for the Workshop.
• The best time to bring out the refreshments is after the Workshop and not during or before, when it might distract the players and disrupt the game.
• If possible, set up the refreshment table outside the Workshop room.
• If refreshments must be brought in at any time other than after the Workshop, you should make sure that the food available is small, non-greasy, and easily picked up with one's hands, e.g. cookies, crackers, hard cheese, etc. Anything that requires utensils or attention during eating should be avoided.
